Purpose
The Silk Road Global News Awards, designed to become a professional, authoritative, and globally influential news showcase, encourage media organizations and individuals in countries along the Belt and Road to learn from each other and pool strength together. By recognizing best news items and works, the awards highlight the stories of the Belt and Road and amplify voice of countries and peoples along the route, so as to promote high-quality joint construction of the Belt and Road.
Category
The awards include four categories: Best Reporting, Best Photography, Best Video and Best Innovation.
Best Reporting Award – for a distinguished example of coverage, commentary, podcasts or personal blogs that adopts clear, logical and convincing views with vivid language, presented as a single article or series.
Best Photography Award – for a distinguished example of press photo that captures the spot on site with distinct theme and strong expressiveness, presented as a single photo or series, focusing on reflecting exchanges and cooperation between China and other countries across various fields, including Education, Culture, Tourism, Public Health, Infrastructure, Sports, etc.
Best Video Award – for a distinguished example of press video with distinctive style, in-depth thoughts, good storytelling techniques and wide popularity, presented as short video, documentary, micro film and playlet, etc.
Best Innovation Award – for a distinguished example of innovative media work or project that explore new media forms, cooperation models and communication mechanisms, or use new concepts, new forms, new channels and new ways to reach good communication and influence, including but not limited to film and television work, new media work, AIGC product, interactive product, special events, innovative international communication mechanisms and platforms, etc.
Prizes:
Each award has 1 winner, 4 shortlists and 10 longlists.
Each winner will receive 150,000 RMB (pre-tax), each shortlist 50,000 RMB (pre-tax), and longlists will have other prizes.
Entry Rules
1. The awards are open to global submission. Eligible entries must be produced either solely by foreign entities or through China-Foreign collaboration. Entries independently produced by Chinese institutions or individuals are not eligible.
2. Entries can be works that support the Belt and Road Initiative, convey the Silk Road spirit, embody exchanges among civilizations, conform to the concept of building a community with a shared future for mankind, or those with good international influence.
3. Entries should be those have been published or exhibited on media platforms, including but not limited to social media, online platforms and print publications, etc. All those entered for the contest should be published after the January of 2025.
4. Entrants should either be copyright holder(s) or have been authorized by the copyright holder(s) to enter the contest. It is the responsibility of the entrant to ensure there will be no controversies from a third party over the publication, reproduction or transmission of the entries submitted. Entrants will be wholly responsible for any legal liabilities initiated by a third party over an entry.
5. Entries submitted cannot contain uncopyrighted materials. All intellectual properties of third parties such as copyrights and trademarks shall not be infringed. Plagiarism is not tolerated, and the entrant is wholly responsible for such a case.
Submission
1. Entries are submitted online. All entrants should register on the official website of the Belt and Road News Network (BRNN) http://www.brnn.com before submitting entries. All information provided by the entrant must be genuine.
2. Copyright holders retain copyright of their work. For awarded entries, copyright holders grant BRNN non-exclusive use of their work for activities in all media, including social media, online and print, in relation to the contest, the promotion, communication, exhibition, publication, and all promotional activities for and under the auspices of BRNN, without any remuneration being due. BRNN has the obligation to respect the signature rights of entrants and copyright holders.
3. No entry can be withdrawn for any reason once it is submitted.
4. No entry fee is charged.
Judgment
1. The awards, launched by BRNN, is organized by People’s Daily, BRNN council chair.
2. The judging process will take place in two rounds, the first round by Academic Committees and the second (final) round by the Judging Committee. The process will be updated on BRNN’s website and mobile application.
3. The chair of the Judging Committee is assumed by President of People’s Daily. The Judging Committee is composed of representatives of BRNN council members, as well as experts and scholars from professional academic institutions.
Academic Committees for each award are composed of experts and scholars from professional academic institutions and veteran and senior news practitioners.
Award Presentation Ceremony
1. The award presentation ceremony will be held by BRNN in good time and various events will be organized alongside, such as seminar, lectures and joint reporting programme.
2. The award-winning works will be posted on the BRNN website and its mobile application, and will be recommended to the BRNN members for republishing.
