Title:TV, China and me: Chinese-French Edition Book and Micro-Documentary in Tribute to the 60th Anniversary of China-France Diplomatic Relations
Introduction:
2024 marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France. Against this backdrop, the Belt and Road Initiative Documentary Academic Consortium has collaborated with internationally renowned television personality Mr. Olivier Grandjean to curate and launch the Chinese-French edition of the book TV, China and me as well as an integrated media audiovisual project.
As the inaugural work of the “China Through the Lens” book series, TV, China and me (available in both Chinese and French editions) centers on Olivier Grandjean’s 18-year experience in program production in China. Presented in the form of a travelogue with vivid illustrations and text, it documents his journey of encountering China, drawing close to China, traveling across China, and rooting himself in China. Co-published by Éditions Pacifica (Paris) and People’s Publishing House, the book has achieved a cumulative circulation of over 10,000 copies both domestically and internationally. Guided by an integrated communication mindset, the project has created a bilingual (Chinese-French) micro-documentary with the same name. With Olivier Grandjean’s writing process as its main thread, the documentary captures remarkable moments of his work and life in China, showcasing his family’s “bond with China.”
Communication Effect and Social Influence:
The micro-documentary won the Best International Communication Award at the 10th China-Europe Youth Film Festival and the Second Prize in the Short Video Category at the 14th Beijing International Film Festival. In October 2024, it was screened at Cinema Aventure in Brussels, Belgium, and the Centre Culturel de Chine à Paris in France as part of the “Meet China” Special Exhibition during the 6th China-EU Film Festival, accumulating over 2 million online views. Katell Abiven, AFP China Bureau Chief, stated, Olivier’s documentary is as unforgettable as his book.
The project explored diverse communication and promotion methods. During the 30th Beijing International Book Fair, a launch event for the new book TV, China and me was held at the China National Convention Center in Beijing. Simultaneously, a series of promotional and cultural exchange activities were organized at the French Cultural Centre in Beijing, as well as in Paris (France), Geneva (Switzerland), and other places. These efforts have injected a warm humanistic vibe into the celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of China-France diplomatic relations.
Internationally, over 20 media outlets such as France’s Euronews TV, Switzerland’s Radio Suisse Romande (RSR), Léman Bleu TV, and Rhône FM have carried out interviews with relevant figures, and distributed the accompanying micro-documentary.
