Title:Yingge Dance
Introduction:
In November 2024, Zhao documented Yingge Dance in its birthplace, Shantou’s Chaoyang district. His lens captured performances under Wenguang Pagoda, formation drills at Wenguang Taoyuan training base, stick-fighting rehearsals, and mask-painting artistry—aiming to globalize this 1,000-year-old intangible cultural heritage and celebrate the Teochew people’s vitality. In November 2024, Ringo Chu traveled to Shantou, the birthplace of Yingge Dance, to film Chaoyang Yingge. His lens captured scenes such as the performance of Ximen Yingge Troupe under Wenguang Pagoda, the formation changes, hammer-striking training at Wenguang Taoyuan Yingge Heritage Base, and the craftsmanship of Yingge facial makeup. He hopes that through these images, Chaoyang Yingge will become known to more people at home and abroad, conveying the positive and uplifting spirit of the Chaoshan people, and helping this national intangible cultural heritage with a history of over a thousand years go global, thereby showcasing China’s fine traditional culture to the world.
