In order to develop the thousand-year-old Tibetan opera and enable children in border areas in Xizang Autonomous Region to study in better environment, 30,000 power grid constructors worked in swamps at -30℃ in winter to build a new large-scale power project in. The documentary "Lighting Up Ali -- A Diary of an Engineer" focuses on the story of the Ali Interconnection Project in Xizang Autonomous Region, known as "the roof of the rooftop of the world". From the perspectives of project construction, ecological environmental protection, and electricity use by local farmers and herdsmen in Xizang, it uses a "diary-style oral narration" to record how the workers of the State Grid overcame extreme cold and oxygen deficiency, broke through the forbidden zone of life, challenged the limits of survival, and built the ultra-high voltage power transmission and transformation project "closest to the sky", bringing light to 380,000 farmers and herdsmen and leading them towards a better future.

"Lighting Up Ali -- An Engineer’s Diary" is an important achievement of the "New Era, New Images" co-creation program sponsored by China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration, Warner Bros. Discovery, etc. The total exposure of the co-creation program across all platforms exceeded 29 million. The full film and promotional videos were presented on accounts of Discovery Channel and its affiliated media platforms such as YouTube and Facebook, reaching 19 countries and regions including the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, Australia, and Malaysia, with a peak viewership of 6,840 people, which is 49% higher than the average of 4,580 for similar engineering programs. In 2024, the film will be replayed in the "Amazing China" column on Discovery Southeast Asia Channel. The work won the Silver Award at the 45th Telly Awards, and was selected into the list of excellent domestic documentaries in the fourth quarter of 2023 by the National Radio and Television Administration and the key publication topics for thematic publishing in 2024 by the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.
