Author: Anaïs Martane
Country: France
Author bio:
Anaïs Martane, a French artist, has resided in Beijing for over 20 years with her family, which includes renowned actor Liu Ye. She is a photographer, a member of the River Band, and a theater producer—her works include Les Misérables, Guetto, and The Vagabond Song. She has long been committed to promoting Sino-French artistic exchanges and cultural cooperation. Born in 1980 in Nice, France, Anaïs grew up in a family with a strong artistic atmosphere: her father was a theater actor, and her sister is also an actress. This rich artistic environment nurtured her deep interest in photography and film. At 14, she began learning Chinese during her high school years. She graduated from the National Institute for Oriental Languages and Civilizations (INALCO) in Paris at 21, after which she settled in China. Her photographic work Chinese Portraits was published in both French and English, distributed globally, and exhibited in Beijing (Pekin Fine Arts) and Shanghai (Art Labor Gallery) as part of the Croisements Festival. Her work A Jewish Story in Shanghai was also exhibited in Paris and Tianjin. She previously worked at France’s Rosem Films as a film producer and French-side liaison. Passionate about public welfare, she has been involved in projects such as “Children of Ningxia,” among others. In 2017–2018, she held an exhibition entitled warm-up at the Three Shadows Photography Art Centre, which focused on Chinese folk musicians from the 2000s. As a theater producer, she has been involved in musical dramas including Guetto and The Vagabond Song. To mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Sino-French diplomatic relations, she produced the Chinese-language adaptation of Les Misérables, which toured across China and France in 2024.
